Rain on your wedding day — whether you’re a little superstitious about what that means or not, you still have a problem at hand, or do you? There are endless ways to combat the rain and keep yourselves and all the wedding guests in high spirits. Here are some tips on how to handle it!

 

1. Have a backup plan for if it starts to rain

To prevent unnecessary stress, try to get a backup plan in case the rain decides to crash the wedding. If you know you want an outdoor ceremony and cocktail hour, ensure you choose a venue that has an indoor or tented option just in case it rains.

If you’d rather embrace it, or if your venue doesn’t have an indoor option, you can purchase some clear, white, or black umbrellas in bulk to keep everyone dry. Having neutral-color umbrellas readily available in case it rains ensures everyone can still stay dry, but their bright mix-matched umbrellas wont distract from the ceremony.

2. Make sure you have indoor options

A venue with an indoor option would be ideal. Having indoor and outdoor access gives the guests ultimate room for partying but also ensures a safety net if the weather doesn’t agree with you. When looking for an indoor venue, opt for something with big windows to let in plenty of natural light. Alternatively, for a mix of indoor and outdoor, you could rent a clear tent to keep everyone dry, but still allow for nature to do its thing.

3. Ride out the storm

Evaluate the circumstances. If you can see the blue sky slowly rolling in, talk with your vendor team about switching the schedule up. We’ve had couples move cocktail hour to before the ceremony so we could wait out the rain, and it ended up being perfect!

4. Be prepared for anything

The best way to not let the rain on your wedding day ruin your mood is to always consider it as a possibility. There are a ton of ways to avoid or embrace the rain, but no matter what you choose, don’t let the weather take control of the day. This day is all about you and your spouse being together, and at the end of the day, that’s all that matters.
