When I talk to couples during our consult, the first look discussion almost always comes up, and while many couples already have their minds made up, some are still up in the air about whether or not they want one. Here are seven pros and cons of doing a first look to help you decide!
If you’re someone who gets anxious at the thought of being the center of attention all day, carving out the time for a first look is the perfect way to get all your emotions out with your partner without everyone staring at you. It’s a great way to get grounded with each other before everything starts.
Your wedding day is non-stop, and a lot of couples feel like they didn’t get any alone time with their partner when it’s all over. Having a first look gives you and your partner a chance to pause, have a moment to take it all in, and spend one last moment with each other before everything kicks off after the ceremony.
Rather than being whisked away for photos during cocktail hour, first looks give you guys and wedding party more time to spend with the guests. After all, you spent all that time picking the perfect drinks and dance music, you should be able to be a part of it!
The first look can provide more than just calmed nerves and ample party time; it can also help ensure we have ample time for the photos. If you do a first look, we can get wedding party photos and even some photos of the two of you and your families done all before the ceremony depending on the timeline! For those having a winter wedding, you won’t have to fight the clock to get photos done before the sun sets.
Straying away from tradition may not matter to some, but to others it does. If you’re not sure a first look is something you want to do, don’t feel pressured to do it! It’s totally up to each couple and whatever you prefer!
While a first look can increase the time you spend with guests during the reception, you now have to factor in that time for before the wedding. If your wedding starts earlier in the day, you may feel a bit rushed to get everyone’s hair and makeup done before the photos need to start.
